The Spiritual Treadmill

(We just put the holidays behind us, and this blog has been inspired by the food, lol.)  I’m sometimes very surprised by people at the gym.  It is, of course, full of folks who are in shape and have no problems with their workouts.  On the other hand, there are the ones who hit the treadmill with all they’ve got and nearly pass out because of the shock to their bodies!  (I think men do it more than women, too, lol.)  There’s no shame in knowing you need to start slow and work your way up to more strenuous routines.  It’ll sure save you a lot of pain!  Sometimes, we hit the spiritual treadmill in the same way – we jump on it like we’re in shape, like we’re ready for the high levels, but the truth is, we need to take it slower and work up to it.  That’s why the Lord wants us to spend time in His Word and in prayer, so we can be prepared for life’s “workouts”.  Just like the ones at the gym, we need to have a steady relationship with our spiritual treadmill; we need to keep our spirits in shape, and that comes by regular exercise – not a high-intensity session once a month!
