I heard something that I really like: “Faith is confidence, but trust is commitment.” When we have faith that a person can do something, we believe that they have the available resources that enable them to get the job done. And I believe a lot of people have faith. Trust, on the other hand, deals more with relationships. You can commit to someone when you know them, when you know their character will make sure that they follow through on their word. Faith and ability hold hands, just as trust and integrity do. Also, faith can waver, but trust is in it for the long haul. When there are no visible results of what you have faith for, it’s easy to start questioning whether or not they’re even working to get things done. Trust, however, knows that, even if nothing can be seen at the moment, that person is taking steps to make sure things come together. Even though our interaction with others includes both faith and trust, it plays a much bigger role in our Christian walk. Just plant your faith on the foundation of trust, and remember this: “Faith is believing He can; trust is knowing He will.”
