That's My Daddy, That's Not My Daddy, That's My Daddy

Disclaimer: I realize that not everyone’s relationship with God follows this pattern, but it if it applies to you, you know who you (we) are. I was thinking about all of the details that are the same between earthly parents and their children and God and His children. One thing that crossed my mind was the different relational stages…Most younger children love their parents and don’t care who sees them hug or kiss them; most teenagers don’t want to be seen within 100 feet of their parents; most adults return to their childhood parental affection. God’s children evolve in much the same way. When we’re first saved, we tell EVERYBODY about Him and the change He’s made! As we get older in our salvation, we’re not as quick to run to Him screaming, “Daddy!” When we hit those formative teenage years – the “know-it-all” period – we can find ourselves in the midst of situations that cause us to push God away. Sometimes, we don’t want Him around simply because we’re embarrassed by our actions. But, then, when that wonderful beginning of *real* spiritual maturity hits, it’s back to being best friends with your Father and introducing Him to everyone you meet! I wish that I could say I’m not included in the group that had this growth experience, but I can’t. I’m just glad that Daddy was always with me as I went through my growing pains :)
